Letter to Parents December 6, 2006
Dear Students and Parents/Guardians:
Please find enclosed the Second Quarter Progress Report. For the First Quarter Report Card we had 105 students attain Honor Roll. To be on the Honor Roll a student must have B average (3.0 Grade Point Average). We would like to see more students on the Honor Roll at the mid-year.
The Second Quarter Progress Report indicates where the student is academically for the second quarter mid way through the quarter. Your child has approximately four weeks and the winter break to improve his/her grades before the second quarter ends. At the end of the Second Quarter, January 2nd is the last day of classes your child will mid-year exams from January 23-25, 2007.
Poor Attendance or Not Submitting Homework
The biggest obstacles to student achievement are too many absences and students who do not do homework. Three simple guides can be followed to ensure success for your child
- come to school
- pay attention in class
- complete and submit homework on time
Tutors, After School Help and Study Hall
If your child needs extra help or a place to work quietly after school we provide it. Each teacher is obligated to have tutorial times after school each week. Many teachers also give extra help before school or during lunch. Please make sure your child take advantage of our faculty and gets all the help offered. We do have a limited number of tutors who provide additional one-on-one help. Please contact Mr. Spears to see if we can provide a tutor.
Five Values of the School as a Priority
Here are the five values we believe will make for a successful school and for a high achieving student:
As members of the Chavez Community…
- We respect ourselves at all times
- We respect others at all times
- We respect our school community at all times
- We respect learning at all times
- We seek high academic achievement at all times
These values are posted throughout the school including in every classroom

Mid-Year Exams January 23-25, 2007
Every student will take a two-hour exam in each subject. There will be two exams a day with some last minute time before each exam and lunch between each exam. These exams will assess how well students met the standards of the class for the first half of the academic year.
If we continue to work together to help your child understand the value of an education and the hard work and determination it takes to get a good education go to college and be successful, we will make sure your child reaches those goals. But its hard work! Let’s continue to work together to ensure your child gets the best education possible.
Sincerely,
